Szalonna (in hungarian, Slanina in Romanian) is a food made entirely from the fat of the pig usually with skin. This is cured for a few days with salt, than smoked and dried. It can be consumed raw (well, smoked) or prepared, added to food.  Usually it’s made from the fat on the back of the pig (See also “Salo“). While it is often called “hungarian bacon”, the taste is very different from bacon.
